About the reference documents: Related Documents and Resources

This endpoint supports the ibonav.aero geo server (WMS/WFS). For the geo server itself — layers, services and how to use them — see the Geo Server section, including GetCapabilities.

A ready copy of the WMS GetCapabilities document of the ibonav.aero geo server, so clients do not have to wait for the geo server to build it. Refreshed every 10 minutes.

The document is the unchanged WMS 1.3.0 GetCapabilities XML. Built directly by the geo server it can take tens of seconds; this copy is answered at once. A copy older than one hour is not served (503), because an outdated layer tree could name layers that no longer exist; in that case, request the capabilities from the geo server directly.

Endpoints

Endpoint Description
GET /qgis-capabilities/wms The GetCapabilities document (text/xml)
GET /qgis-capabilities/status Freshness of the copy (JSON)

Response

/wms

The XML document, with these headers:

Header Description
X-Caps-Fetched-At Last successful refresh (ISO 8601, UTC)
X-Caps-Age-Seconds Seconds since that refresh
X-Caps-Stale true when the last successful refresh is more than two refresh intervals old (the geo server has problems); the copy is still served while it is under one hour old
ETag Fingerprint of the document
Cache-Control no-cache — always revalidate

Send the ETag back in If-None-Match: if the document has not changed, the answer is 304 with no body.

/status

{
  "fetched_at": "2026-09-03T05:30:00Z",
  "changed_at": "2026-09-01T12:10:00Z",
  "age_seconds": 142,
  "max_serve_age_seconds": 3600,
  "servable": true,
  "stale": false,
  "bytes": 136177,
  "sha256": "…",
  "qgis_wms_url": "…"
}
Field Description
fetched_at Last successful refresh, whether or not the document changed
changed_at Last time the document content changed
servable false when there is no copy or it is older than max_serve_age_seconds
stale Same as X-Caps-Stale

A failed refresh, or an answer from the geo server that is not a valid capabilities document (e.g. a service exception), leaves the copy and both times unchanged.

Errors

Code Meaning
304 Not modified (If-None-Match matched)
503 No copy yet, or the copy is older than one hour — use the geo server directly
