Volcanic ash advisories issued by the volcanic ash advisory centres (VAAC): the advisories in force, those of the last 24 hours, and layers of the volcano positions and the observed/forecast ash-cloud areas. Data is refreshed every 5 minutes.

A volcanic ash advisory is a different message from the notice of a volcano observatory (VONA). The advisory format is that of PANS-MET Table A7-2. To decode an advisory, pass its raw text to VA Advisory (ICAO).

GET /opmet-va/geojson/extent Ash-cloud areas of the advisories in force, one polygon per phase (Polygon FeatureCollection)
GET /opmet-va/latest-snapshot Time of the newest data, {"snapshot": "YYYYMMDD_HHMM"} or null

For a map layer, poll /latest-snapshot and request the GeoJSON only when the value changes.

Positions and areas are decoded from the advisory text (Table A7-2); an area needs at least three points.

Errors

400 Unknown source id
503 The service is starting up; retry shortly

If a data source cannot be reached, the last received advisories stay available.
