About the reference documents: Related Documents and Resources

Decodes a wind shear warning into readable fields, following the PANS-MET template strictly. Optionally returns machine-readable values (parsed).

The format is that of PANS-MET Table A7-7 (see also Chapter 6, 6.7). There is no wind shear warning data service yet; this decoder works on messages you supply.

Endpoints

POST /opmet-decoder-ws-wrng-icao/decode?parsed=false
Content-Type: application/json

{ "raw": "<wind shear warning text>" }

Parameters

Parameter In Default Description
raw body — Warning text, at least 10 characters
parsed query false true: add the parsed object

How the template is processed

  • Field names and wording come from PANS-MET Table A7-7 and its notes: output keys are the template element names; the phenomenon, the report (REP AT 1510 B747 → "Reported at 15:10 UTC by B747") and the details (60KMH LOSS 4KM FNA RWY13 → "Airspeed or headwind loss of 60 km/h at 4 km on final approach, runway 13") are written out. Abbreviations are expanded as defined in PANS-MET and PANS-ABC (Doc 8400).
  • M (mandatory) elements are always present (null when missing or not following the template). C (conditional) elements — validity period, details, cancellation — appear only when present.
  • Microburst forms (MBST …) take no MOD/SEV qualifier; a qualifier there is undecodable.
  • Numbers: a numeric placeholder means "up to that many digits", so the table's own examples (320/5MPS, 60M-WIND, 4KM, 2NM) decode; day-time groups and times are fixed.
  • Strict template: groups that do not follow the template are listed under Undecodable elements (neighbouring groups form one entry).

For the full list of phenomena and details, see PANS-MET Table A7-7.

Undecodable elements Groups that do not follow the template (only when there are any)
corrected_raw The message after normalization; positions refer to this text
positions Character spans {start, end} in corrected_raw, one per decoded value in output order, then one per undecodable entry
parsed With parsed=true: location_indicator, sequence_number, time of origin (utc_day, utc_time); for a cancellation also cancelled_sequence_number
