About the reference documents: Related Documents and Resources

Decodes an aerodrome warning into readable fields, following the PANS-MET template strictly. Optionally returns machine-readable values (parsed).

The format is that of PANS-MET Table A7-6 (see also Chapter 6, 6.6). To get warnings to decode, see AD WRNG; converted warnings end with an RMK … part that is not a template element and is therefore listed as undecodable.

Endpoints

POST /opmet-decoder-ad-wrng-icao/decode?parsed=false
Content-Type: application/json

{ "raw": "<aerodrome warning text>" }

Parameters

Parameter In Default Description
raw body — Warning text, at least 10 characters
parsed query false true: add the parsed object

How the template is processed

  • Field names and wording come from PANS-MET Table A7-6 and its notes: output keys are the template element names; phenomena are written out with the template's terms (e.g. HVY SN 25CM → "Heavy snow, expected total snowfall 25 cm", RIME → "Hoar frost or rime"). Abbreviations are expanded as defined in PANS-MET and PANS-ABC (Doc 8400).
  • M (mandatory) elements are always present (null when missing or not following the template). C (conditional) elements — changes in intensity, cancellation — appear only when present. A cancellation (CNL AD WRNG …) has no phenomenon.
  • Several phenomena are returned as a list; a single phenomenon as a string.
  • Free text: text that is not a template phenomenon is accepted as free text up to 32 characters; longer text is undecodable.
  • Numbers: a numeric placeholder means "up to that many digits" (nn[n]MPS accepts 20MPS); day-time groups and nnnnZ are fixed.
  • Strict template: groups that do not follow the template are listed under Undecodable elements (neighbouring groups form one entry).

For the full list of phenomena and forms, see PANS-MET Table A7-6.

Key Description
element keys Decoded elements, in template order
Undecodable elements Groups that do not follow the template (only when there are any)
corrected_raw The message after normalization (single spaces, upper case, no final =); positions refer to this text
positions Character spans {start, end} in corrected_raw, one per decoded value in output order (one per list item), then one per undecodable entry
parsed With parsed=true: location_indicator, sequence_number, start of validity (utc_day, utc_time), end of validity (valid_to); for a cancellation also cancelled_sequence_number
